Mostly cloudy but with brief periods of sun and a temperature of 59° from 12:05 to 1:15pm. We’ve had steady rain and gray skies the past week and are on track for the wettest July on record here in Anchorage following more than two months of warm, bone dry weather. My butterflying efforts had come to a complete halt so I was glad for a brief outing today. The bog was waterlogged in most places following the rain so I stuck to the trail until I found an area on the southeast side of the marsh that wasn’t quite as wet. I inspected the Shrubby Cinquefoil there and was glad to finally see a single Dorcas Copper. I also found and photographed an unenthusiastic little Wood Frog - Alaska’s single species of amphibian, more often heard than seen.
