Sunny with a light wind and temperature at 62° from 6:10 to 7:30pm. Sightings data for the area is light, but I was intrigued by reports from the past two years of Common Ringlets along the Coastal Trail on the west side of Anchorage during the last third of June. While I’ve seen Ringlets elsewhere in Alaska I hadn’t known they might be present here in town, and it warranted investigation. Since many of my butterfly sightings have seemed early this season, I figured I’d try at mid-month. After searching for over an hour and finding nothing but Greenish Blues, I headed back towards the car to go home. Then in tall grass a buff-colored flutter caught my eye and - I’ll be darned - I’d found a Ringlet. It was fairly worn so maybe late in it’s flight stage.
