New Sighting
Mostly cloudy with short periods of sun, breezy, and 64° from 6 to 7pm. Quiet with far more mosquitos than butterflies. I found a pristine Milbert’s Tortoiseshell vibrating its wingtips in shade to stimulate its thoracic muscles in preparation for flight activity. A very worn and faded Tortoiseshell just a few yards away struck quite a contrast. When I walked back up the trail a little later both Tortoiseshells were flying around beside the trail.
