Clear, 72°, and breezy from 2:10 to 3pm. Snow-white Dall sheep with little lambs nervously climbed the cliffs above, a black bear menacing them from the top of the bluff for much of the time we were present. It seemed the bear had little chance of getting down near the sheep, which shifted to ever more precarious spots along the cliff to evade it. Down in the meadow lots of drama played out too, with butterflies pursuing each other and nectaring actively. As with other species this season the Mormon Fritillaries seem to have eclosed quite early. It was a pleasure to see their fresh, bright orange color as they fluttered up and down the slope in the sunlight.
