Sighting for May 22, 2022

Jacobsburg State Park
Northampton County, PA

Mostly sunny, light breeze, 90 degrees. Finally had an uninterrupted early afternoon and completed a 5 mile loop. First Monarchs since the lone individual seen earlier in the season, as well as FOY Black Swallowtail, Red-spotted Purple, Hobomok Skipper, Peck’s Skipper, and Question Mark. The Question Mark was in “summer form.” There appears to be a new brood of Azures out right now…seems late for Spring and too early for Summer. Bright white undersides, maybe slightly larger, and stronger fliers than the Spring Azures. I suspect these may be C. serotina (Cherry Gall Azures), however none would land long enough for a photo. I’ll list them below as a generic “Azure.”
