Sighting for April 13, 2022

Tom Fiore

Mt. Taurus/Hudson Highlands Park (north of Cold Spring)
Putnam County, NY

Not all that active, with almost no nectar-flowers seen other than (poss.) native Red Maple flowers by summit; elev. 1,600+ ft. a.s.l. on Mt. Taurus. Only the 2 Cabbage were seen much lower; others at and near the summit, in afternoon sun, near 70 F. & s. breezes.
The Falcate was my 2nd-sighting of the season, and first-of-year for me in Putnam County NY. This is a hike only for those somewhat fit, or willing to make the climb, steep up and down - and extremely popular for hikers, although not so many in my mid-week visit. Also seen on the trail here, a tiger beetle with the name Cicindela limbalis, a regular site for the species.

  • Cabbage White 2
