Sighting for October 22, 2021

John and Nancy Crosby

Shellman Bluff Road Powerline
McIntosh County, GA

82 degrees, sunny but only filtered sun here due to large pines in adjacent field. We saw the carphephorus blooming & had to stop! Once on site we found a fabulous aster, flat-topped goldenrod, elephant’s foot & more. A friend went an hour later and told us carphephorus name was changed to Trilisa paniculata. Today she photographed Little Metalmark oviposting on this plant which is in the same genus as Trilisa odoratissima (Vanilla-Leaf) which we have in our neighborhood which Little Metalmark uses for a host plant. Gulf Fritillary was photographed on Trilisa paniculata.
