Linda Cooper

Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve, Rock Ridge Rd entrance. This former WMA spreads over Polk, Lake and Sumter Counties.
Polk County, FL

We hit the jackpot here! This area is NOT open to the public EXCEPT during hunting season. We had to get special permission for entry. One Arogos Skipper was seen on survey here on Sep. 8. This one was in Lake County. The one found on Sep. 28 was in Sumter County and very fresh individual. It is really a shame it is only open during hunting season which doesn’t start until mid-Oct. Rare skippers are flying NOW! Also there is a cool historic site on Main Grade with a memorial plaque to two members of the Stewart family murdered by an axe-wielding grandson and friend in the early 1900s.
