Henry Kindervatter

Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve
Bucks County, PA

I walked the outer grounds of the preserve as well as a quick trip inside the gate as far as the pond from 4:00pm to 5:45 pm. The earlier dearth of Eastern tiger-swallowtails appears to have finally been overcome by the second brood. I also had 3 Sleepy oranges, which seem to appear here yearly, though nowhere else in the area. There was a good diversity of species, just in time for the annual count on Saturday.

  • Eastern Tiger Swallowtail 35
  • Spicebush Swallowtail 10
  • Cabbage White 15
  • Orange Sulphur 1
  • Sleepy Orange 3
  • Great Spangled Fritillary 1
  • Monarch 4
  • Silver-spotted Skipper 13
  • Wild Indigo Duskywing 1
  • Peck's Skipper 2
  • Sachem 11
