Southern Boundary area of Lassen Volcanic National Park (NABA Count area - Spencer Meadows)
Tehama County, CA

I did a preliminary look at the Spencer Meadows area before the official NABA Count today with the count compiler Joe Smith, and Ray Bruun. The conditions are very good down low at Child’s Meadows right now but will only improve the higher we get by count time.
I had an unexpected find. Great Arctic flies as an adult once every other year and it is always on an ‘even’ numbered year. So, this guy shouldn’t be out! But, there are always the ones that beat to a different drummer, so to speak. I expected to see a few this year but to photograph one is a little exciting.
